Nonlinear FE Investigation on Behavior of Cold-Formed Stainless-Steel Columns Subject to Cyclic Loading

Sakib, S.M. & Amanat, K.M.

Thin-Walled Structures: Journal for Civil and Structural Engineering

This paper investigates the seismic behavior of cold-formed stainless-steel HSS columns under combined axial compression and cyclic bending using a validated three-dimensional nonlinear FE model developed in ANSYS. Parametric analyses reveal the effects of key geometric parameters on hysteretic response and local buckling, providing insights for improved seismic design of cold-formed stainless-steel columns.

Numerical Simulation of Cyclic Behavior of Cold-Formed Stainless-steel RHS Columns Subject to Cyclic Bending

Sakib, S.M. & Amanat, K.M.

International Conference on Civil Engineering Research and Innovations-ICCEI 2025

A validated three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model was developed to investigate the seismic behavior of cold-formed stainless-steel RHS columns under cyclic bending. The model was verified against experimental results and successfully captured the hysteretic response and local buckling behavior, providing valuable insights into the seismic performance of these structural members and supporting the development of improved design approaches.

Base isolation: The Revolutionary Measure in Earthquake Protection of Buildings

Sakib, S.M.

Annual Magazine-2024: ASCE Student Chapter, BUET

This article reviews the application of base isolation systems for improving the seismic performance of buildings by reducing earthquake-induced forces and structural damage. Through a comparative analysis of existing studies and real-world case examples, it demonstrates the effectiveness of various isolation systems in enhancing structural safety and resilience in earthquake-prone regions.
